This original craftsman house needed to expand one of its small rooms into a master suite. In order to honor the structure of the craftsman house, we needed to keep its period charm, but brighten it with a lot of windows, lighter interior colors and clean lines, while maintaining its elements of craftsmanship.
Adjoining the large master bedroom, we created a sunroom, an inside and out oasis that fills the space with light, greens and beautiful flowers of the season. Craftsmanship elements are prevalent throughout the space. Stained glass windows add a unique touch of artistry. The trim around the windows and doors mimic the style throughout the house and the richly patinaed mission style rocking chair adds comfort to the pleasant space.
Large sliding doors allow the outside to flow inside. The green oasis continues onto the the small porch, where comfortable wicker rockers invite you for a morning cup of coffee. The chrystal chandelier radiates old world charm, while the carriage house lanterns reminisce of the old days.
The bedroom is a sanctuary of warmth, comfort and craftsmanship. Clearstory windows bathe the room with additional light and air.
The timeless beauty of the rich, solid wood dresser and nightstands celebrate the classic lines of the craftsman era.
The clean lines of the bright and airy bathrooms still incorporate the old world charm. Shaker cabinets, intricate faucets and vintage inspired sconces create the blend of simplicity and orderliness of the craftsman style. Wood floor inspired floor tile add the warmth and comfort to the space.
A large shower and a tall cabinet are serving the practical role of comfort and ease of functioning in the space. Hand glazed artisan shower tiles, along with the pebble shower floor contribute to the artisanal feel of the room.
Clean solid fixtures, dreamy light and funky artwork provide visual interest and an individual touch.
Overall, this addition complimented the original craftsman house, but brought it into modern times. It became a retreat form the busy world outside, a place where the beauty of craftsman ship and serenity of nature come together in an inviting sanctuary.
Special thanks to our model Gracie for making taking the pictures so much fun.
